All the rumors about the iPhone SE 4: display size, design, Face ID, release date and more

All the rumors about the iPhone SE 4: display size, design, Face ID, release date and more. Apple is already developing a new low-cost iPhone SE, and it is expected that the new device will receive major changes to bring the iPhone closer to the flagship line.

Apple Changes AirDrop Time to Public Mode

The release of the new iPhone SE is not expected until 2024, but the first rumors about it have already begun to appear, this article has collected all the rumors known at the moment.

Design

The current third generation iPhone SE is Apple’s smallest device modeled after the iPhone 8. It measures 4.7 inches and is the only iPhone officially released by Apple with thick bezels and a Touch ID button.

With the next iPhone SE update, this should change, rumors indicate that Apple has a new design planned. The fourth-generation iPhone SE will have a design similar to all current iPhones, and Apple will ditch Touch ID’s home button in favor of a different authentication method.

Jon Prosser has suggested that the iPhone SE 4 could be similar to the 2018 iPhone XR, which has rounded edges rather than the square edges of all current iPhones. Previous versions of the iPhone SE had the design of older iPhones, so this suggestion is plausible.

The first iPhone SE was based on the iPhone 5s, while the second and third generation versions resemble the iPhone 8. However, Apple may release the iPhone SE 4 similar to the iPhone 12 and later, adding a more modern look that the company used in over the past few years.

Display size

The iPhone XR had a 6.1-inch display, and several rumors suggest that Apple is considering a 5.7-6.1-inch display.

Prosser and Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believe that Apple will use a 6.1-inch display, while display analyst Ross Yang believes that Apple is considering 5.7-inch and 6.1-inch display options for the next iPhone SE. Yang revealed that Apple hasn’t finalized planning for the iPhone SE 4 yet, so both options are still possible.

Display technology

The iPhone SE is the latest iPhone with an LCD display, the rest of the iPhones in Apple’s lineup are already equipped with OLED displays. Apple has used OLED technology for all flagship iPhones since the iPhone 12.

It’s not yet clear whether Apple will use LCD or OLED technology for the iPhone SE 4, and Yang thinks both are possible. Apple is considering 6.1-inch OLED displays from two vendors, as well as 5.7-6.1-inch LCDs. The iPhone SE is much more affordable than other iPhones, and the high cost of OLED could lead Apple to opt for LCD. Although, OLED prices have come down enough for Apple to switch to OLED for the next iPhone SE.

Display notch

With the iPhone SE, Apple is expected to start using the notched displays that Apple has used for all flagship iPhones since 2017.

The notched display will provide room for the front camera, but it’s unclear whether the iPhone SE will support Face ID and the TrueDepth camera system given the cost of the hardware.

By the time the iPhone SE comes out, the flagship iPhone line will be all Dynamic Island, so the older notch design will make the iPhone SE stand out.

Touch ID or Face ID?

Apple is moving away from using Touch ID and the iPhone SE is currently the last remaining iPhone with this technology. Since Face ID technology has been around since 2017, Apple may use it for the next generation iPhone SE.

According to MyDrivers and Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone SE 4 may have a Touch ID power button similar to the one found on the iPad Air, iPad, and iPad mini. This technology has yet to be used on iPhones, but the Touch ID power button can keep costs down and differentiate the iPhone SE from flagship iPhones.

A series chip

The current iPhone SE is equipped with the same A15 chip found in the iPhone 13 models, so the iPhone SE could get the previous generation chip.

Since the iPhone SE 4 is expected to be released in 2024, when the iPhone 16 should already be released, a year after the iPhone 15, the standard iPhone 15 models are expected to use the A16 found in the iPhone 14 Pro, so there is a good chance that the iPhone SE 4 will have an A16 chip.

5G

The current iPhone SE is equipped with 5G technology, and the next generation version is likely to get an updated 5G chip with support for more bands.

release date

The iPhone SE is rumored to be released in 2024.
