Apple has changed how AirDrop works in “Public” mode. In the iOS 16.1.1 update, Apple has limited AirDrop in Public mode to only send files for 10 minutes.
After this time, AirDrop will switch to “Contacts Only” mode to prevent mass distribution of content to strangers.
True, there is one thing: the restriction applies only to China. This is due to the protests, in which posters against the Chinese government and Xi Jinping were sent using AirDrop.
But you should not rejoice at such a local restriction – next year it will be launched around the world. This was announced by Apple.
