Apple may still be thinking about 12-inch MacBooks

Apple may still be thinking about 12-inch MacBooks. Perhaps all is not lost yet: the MacBook with a 12-inch screen could return to Apple’s price list. The Korean blog Naver talks about it by signaling a message published by the yeux1122 account which in the past, albeit in a fluctuating way, accurately anticipated the news arriving from Cupertino.

Don’t have iOS 16.3? Apple tells you what you risk

According to a Taiwanese company that supplies some components to Apple, the company, as we said, is preparing to reintroduce the 12-inch MacBook in its catalog, which left the scene in July 2019 after thousands of criticisms of the keyboard.

Because it might be a good idea

Yet that computer at least for someone made sense: it took the place of the 11-inch Air (produced between 2011 and 2017) with an extra inch on the screen but while remaining very light and thin. Above all, it was silent because it had no fan, and although it had its limits – there are MacBooks that are more powerful, more flexible and with better keyboards – you couldn’t find anything so light and portable. Perhaps its biggest problem is that it cost too much, especially after the arrival of the new 13″ Air, which only sold for €100 more.

His return would certainly be appreciated if he had a really low entry price and above all if the problems with the keyboard have been resolved, but for the moment it is not obvious: in fact, it is said that Apple is currently evaluating whether to give the device a another chance. It seems that production preparation activities are underway, but nothing more is known, except that industrial mass production, if all goes according to plan, should be confirmed in the second half of this year.

legitimate doubts

The rumor is to be taken with a grain of salt more than usual because the reliable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo never talked about a new 12-inch MacBook last year and the other “sniper” of the rumors, the display analyst Ross Young expressed skepticism about the release of new MacBooks with screen sizes smaller than 13 inches. Only Mark Gurman, of Bloomberg, anticipated what the latest rumor in this regard would like to confirm: the launch of a new MacBook 12 by the end of 2023.
