Then there’s another version of iPhone 15: When Apple introduced eSim technology (with the iPhone XS/XR), there was one country that didn’t accept this kind of device: China.
The real advantage of eSims is that they allow iPhone users to do certain things in ways that traditional nanoSims can’t.

In the U.S., there are eight variations, with or without mmWave. Next, there are variations without mmWave but with dual eSim for Canada, Mexico, and Japan. In China (including Hong Kong and Macao), there’s only the dual nanoSim variation.
