The presence of four iPhones in the Canalys top 5, together with the Galaxy S23, shows how high-end smartphones are conquering more and more market shares.

Shipments of high-end smartphones, i.e. those priced above $500, increased 4.7% year-over-year in the first quarter of this year, Canalys reported. This is in contrast to the general trend of the smartphone market, which has decreased by just over 13%.

Smartphone ranking early 2023

Topping the sales list, unsurprisingly, are four Apple iPhones. iPhone 14 Pro Max dominates the segment, followed by iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 and iPhone 13. In fifth place is the only Android smartphone in the top 5, Samsung’s Galaxy S23 Ultra.

Other prominent Android terminals, still very sold according to Canalys estimates, include the Galaxy S23 and S23+, as well as the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S21 FE, Xiaomi 13 and Huawei Mate 50.

It is interesting to note that leaflets are also gaining momentum, a stage on which Apple is not yet present. The ranking shows how Galaxy Z Flip 4 managed to enter the top 10 of global smartphone shipments in the first quarter of the year.

Returning to the Apple world, in addition to the first 4 positions, there are other iPhones in the top 10. For example, the iPhone 14 Plus is in sixth place, while the iPhone 12 is in eighth. It is interesting to note that in the eleventh place, just outside the top 10, there is the third generation iPhone SE, a clear sign that some users still prefer to handle a small smartphone.
