iPadOS 17 supports built-in webcams on external monitors. iPadOS 17 integrates support for the integrated camera of the Studio Display and those of monitors from other brands, allowing them to be exploited with FaceTime calls and other apps that allow the use of the camera, a convenient feature for those who use iPad with a secondary screen.

watchOS 10, all about the most important update of recent years

It is one of the novelties of the future iPadOS 17, whose preliminary version has already been distributed to developers. The Macrumors site reminds us, explaining that the feature in question is available for iPads with a USB-C port.

In a video on the developer site, it is highlighted that webcams connected via USB-C or USB-A to USB-C adapters can be used plug-and-play with iPads.

Apple has several new features for iPadOS 17, including a redesigned lock screen with interactive widgets, new features for PDFs and Notes, updates to Messages, FaceTime and Safari, and the Health app.

During FaceTime calls it is possible to use reactions such as hearts, balloons, fireworks, laser beams, rain and more, effects that can be activated with simple gestures, even with third-party video calling apps.

The Continuity camera feature allows you to start a video call directly from Apple TV or start it from iPad and then switch it to Apple TV. With Auto Framing, the user stays in the center of the scene even as they move around the room.

Another novelty of iPadOS 17 concerns Stage Manager, with the possibility of managing the position and size of the windows.

Also new is the ability to share content using AirPlay, even with supported televisions in hotels, allowing users to view their own content on their TV when they’re on the go. This latest novelty will be available by the end of the year in some hotels, starting with the brands of the IHG Hotels & Resorts group.

The beta version of iPadOS 17 is already available for registered developers on the dedicated Apple site; the public beta will be available from July.

The final version of iOS 17 will be available this fall as a free software update for iPad (6th generation and later), iPad mini (5th generation and later), iPad Air (3rd generation and later), iPad Pro 12.9-inch (2nd generation and later), iPad Pro 10.5-inch, and iPad Pro 11-inch (1st generation and later).
