iPhone 15 Pro the five new features (plus one) that change everything

iPhone 15 Pro the five new features (plus one) that change everything. We have talked about iPhone 15 Pro many times. We also have an article that presents all the features, one that compares them with the iPhone 14 Pro and one with the iPhone 15.

How to delete multiple items at once from iPhone Contacts?

There are many new features, more than Apple devices have brought us in the past at launch, but there are five that in our opinion more than all the others will end up characterizing the identity of the iPhone 15 Pro.

We are talking about real innovations, at least compared to all previous iPhones, including the iPhone 14. In part these are steps forward that have been hoped for for a long time and that competitors have been introducing for years (the USB-C port for example), in part ideas already seen elsewhere but which Apple refines and brings to a higher level (the thin frames) and in part to real innovations that will be exclusive to Apple devices.

This is the case of the 3 nanometer processor which for now only comes out of the TSMC foundries of which Apple has booked the entire production capacity. A component which, due to its performance and technologies, is able to differentiate iPhones from everything else on the market today and for the short and medium term future.

Below we present, as mentioned, the five most important innovations. We chose them by weighing them on the impact of the user experience. We add one as a “bonus”. I won’t be on all the iPhone 15 Pro, but it deserves to be mentioned because it’s been long overdue: the periscope zoom.

1 – The USB-C port

One of the biggest innovations that the iPhone 15 Pro will bring will be the cancellation of the historic Lightning port replaced by standard USB-C.

This is an obligatory choice determined by the European Union’s decision to impose this technology. The USB-C port instead of the venerable Lightning will lead to an increase in charging speed (perhaps up to 35W against the current 27) and a potential increase in data transfer and cable synchronization speeds. A USB-C port could reach 20 Gpbs versus the current 480 Mbps.

It remains to be seen first of all whether Apple will open the door to this performance (theoretically it could limit it to 480 Mbps as it does with the USB-C port of the tenth generation iPad) and what the performance of the cable supplied in the box will be.

The dilemma arises from rumors circulating a few days before the launch of the iPhone 15 Pro according to which Apple had prepared an 80 cm Thunderbolt 4 compatible cable for the iPhone. This cable would be capable of reaching 40 Gbps and theoretically 130W. In all likelihood it will not be in the package but will be sold separately.

2- The action button

A second important innovation is the disappearance of the mute lever which will be replaced by a button which according to rumors should be multi-function and programmable, therefore conceptually capable of performing the function of the action button of the Apple Watch Ultra.

By replacing the lever to silence the phone, the action button can be used to silence the phone but the user can also reconfigure it as desired

Details in this regard emerged in one of the iOS 17 betas. We know that we could activate, for example: do not disturb, flashlight, energy saving mode, screen rotation lock, show Home screen or lock screen, open Notification Center and many others.

3- The ultra-thin bezel screen

Last year the iPhone brought Dynamic Island, this year the novelty for the screen will be very small frames, the thinnest of any other phone in production.

At the moment the record for the thinnest bezels on smartphones is held in the Android world by Xiaomi 13 with 1.61mm at the top of the screen and 1.81mm at the bottom.

iPhone 15 Pro should have edges of only 1.55mm. This value will therefore be lower than the 2.17mm of the iPhone 14 Pro frames, and also compared to the 1.95mm of the Galaxy S22 and S23 and also those of the Xiaomi 13 which is currently the phone with the smallest frames: 1.61 mm at the top of the screen and 1.81mm at the bottom.

Apple should use Lipo technology, already used for Apple Watch since the launch of Apple Watch 7 which in fact had significantly reduced the edges of its screen.

4 – The eSim instead of the Sim

With iPhone 14 Apple introduced the first phone without SIM but only with eSim only in the United States and the iPhone 15 Pro will be the first to have this feature outside the USA.

The rumor was born in France but the European iPhone 14s are all the same, so if the French phone will not have the SIM United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Austria, Poland, Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Finland , Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and, indeed, also in Italy and a dozen other countries.

In our country the market is now ready: eSims are practically offered by the main mobile operators including TIM, Vodafone, WindTre, Iliad as well as Very Mobile, Spusu and CoopVoce. The last to present an eSim was Fastweb.

5 – The A17 processor

The probably most important novelty, although invisible to most, will be the A17 processor. Even if no one sees it, it will be in this component that the most far-reaching technical innovation lies.

This is a processor that is completely different from any other out there. With its 3 nanometer technology, it will guarantee greater performance (up to 15%) and great energy savings (up to 30%). The processor will allow iPhone 15 Pro to do more things and do them faster.

Apple according to TrendForce Apple will increase the RAM to 8 GB, compared to the 6 GB installed in the iPhone 14 Pro. By increasing the RAM memory, multitasking performance improves and the opening times of apps running in the background are significantly reduced.

The A17 chip is designed by Apple but produced in TSMC’s foundries. Given that no competitor still seems capable of releasing 3-nanometer processors anytime soon and that Apple has booked the entire production capacity, iPhone from the point of view of processor technology will not have any competitors for a long time.

5 + 1 The periscope zoom

iPhone 15 Pro should have more or less the same camera as the iPhone 14. It could change something in the management software, improving aspects such as image rendering and lighting management, but without any significant hardware innovations. The same thing cannot be said for the iPhone 15 Pro Max as for the

This is a system that Apple has been thinking about for years, which through a series of mirrors allows the sensor to be distanced from the lens, overcoming the difficulties posed by the thickness of the device.

This solution should bring the optical zoom up to 6X, with a leap also for digital magnification although the function is intended to be present only on the iPhone 15 Pro Max (or Ultra).
