iPhone unchallenged dominates smartphone sales in 2022

iPhone unchallenged dominates smartphone sales in 2022. iPhone continues to be the best-selling smartphone in the world, with the different versions of the Apple device occupying eight of the top ten handsets in the global sales charts for 2022: in first place we find not the most recent iPhone 14 (basic or pro) but the basic model of 2022 iPhone 13, but it is not the only surprise of the ranking.

Apple’s line of iPhones has been consistently popular with consumers, with models often appearing at the top of best-selling lists. In a new global ranking of the best-selling smartphones in 2022, Apple has managed to dominate once again with the iPhone.

According to Counterpoint Research’s top 10 list of best-selling smartphones, a study that uses data from the Global Monthly Handset Model Sales Tracker, iPhones occupy eight of the 10 available spots, as well as occupying the entire podium.

In the ranking, iPhone 13 was the first with a 5% market share throughout the year, followed by 2.6% iPhone 13 Pro Max and 1.7% iPhone 14 Pro Max. iPhone 13 Pro it finished in fifth place with 1.6%, while the iPhone 12 is sixth at 1.5%. Still, the iPhone 14 seventh at 1.4% and iPhone 14 Pro eighth at 1.2%. iPhone SE 2022 completes the list of Apple devices in the top 10, reaching ninth place with 1.1%.

The only other vendor on the list is Samsung, with the longtime rival grabbing fourth place with the Galaxy A13 at 1.6% and tenth with the Galaxy A03 at 1.1%.

The iPhone 13’s sales performance is even more impressive when you consider the fact that it topped the sales chart from January to August, before dropping to a respectable fourth place. Counterpoint also reports that it has been the best-selling smartphone in markets including China, the UK, the US, Germany and France. Even in Italy the first numbers of 2023 bode well for Apple.

The ranking also marks an interesting turning point: it is the first time that a Pro Max variant has achieved higher sales volumes than other models of the same generation, with the iPhone 14 Pro Max achieving this record in the months from September to November. This is what the report reads:

The 2022 results mirror similar rankings for 2021, when Counterpoint testified how iPhone managed to secure seven spots on the top 10 list, including blocking the top five spots.
