No Mac Studio with M2 Ultra chip to not get in the way of the future Mac Pro?

No Mac Studio with M2 Ultra chip to not get in the way of the future Mac Pro? A new Mac Studio with M2 Ultra chip? Improbable according to the always well-informed Mark Gurman of Bloomberg who states in the latest issue of his newsletter “Power On” that, since the Mac Pro arriving this year would be “very similar” in terms of functionality to the Mac Studio, Apple could wait for M3 or M4 series chips to arrive before upgrading the machine in question, or simply decide not to upgrade at all.

Apple reaps nearly all of the profits in the global smartphone market

“I would not expect the introduction of a Mac Studio in the near future,” writes Gurman. “The upcoming Mac Pro is very similar in functionality to the Mac Studio and features the M2 Ultra chip instead of the M1 Ultra. It would therefore not make sense for Apple to offer the Mac Studio with M2 Ultra and the Mac Pro with M2 Ultra at the same time. It’s more likely that Apple won’t update the Mac Studio or wait for the M3 or M4 generation to become available; at that point the company would have a way to better differentiate the Mac Studio from the Mac Pro”.

So far there have been very few leaks regarding alleged new versions of the Mac Studio. Rumors have recently circulated according to which Apple would have downsized plans for the future Mac Pro, now expected only in the variant with M2 Ultra, the logical evolution of the M2 Pro and M2 Max chips seen on the 2023 MacBook Pro 14″ and 16″.

In the latest issue of his PowerOn newsletter, Gurman also reported that Apple would be considering the idea of a future top-of-the-range iPhone to complement the Pro and Pro Max models in 2024. It is not clear what the differentiating element would be from the Pro and the Pro Max; Gurman speculates further camera refinements, an even more powerful chip, a bigger display, and perhaps a portless design, in other words, no Lightning or USB-C.
