How to unsend a message in iMessage on iPhone or iPad? The WWDC presentation held in early June 2022 showed many interesting software updates for Apple products. How to unsend a message in iMessage on iPhone or iPad?

  1. Launch the Messages app on an iPhone or iPad running iOS 16 or later.
  2. Open the desired chat and find the message you want to cancel.
  3. Press and hold it with your finger until the context menu appears.
  4. It remains only to click the “Cancel sending” button.

Note. And in this case, all the same restrictions apply as for editing a message. Corrective actions can only be taken within 15 minutes after submission. The message “Sending Canceled” will appear below the message. And the recipient will receive a message about deleting the message. WhatsApp behaves in a similar way. But there the canceled message is replaced by the inscription “This message has been deleted.”

There is one more important nuance – if your recipient uses a device with an earlier version of iOS, then you will not be able to cancel the message or edit it. The action itself will pass, but everything will be displayed in the chat window as before. It is worth remembering this, otherwise inattention may result in disagreements in understanding the sent text.

Of course, these iMessage features are neither innovative nor revolutionary. All of them work in one form or another in other popular messengers. And even though Apple has implemented useful features with some limitations, the main thing is that these functions still appeared and are available to iMessage users.
