Apple’s Mixed Reality headset will have an external battery. The Virtual and Augmented Reality viewer that Apple should present at WWDC 2023, and which according to some should amaze the world, will have external batteries as the only solution to give it sufficient autonomy. This was reported by Mark Gurman of Bloomberg in the latest issue of his newsletter “Power On”, following up on statements already reported previously.

Gurman adds to what he had already said some information never reported before. In the first place, Apple for Reality Pro (as this accessory should be called) would have foreseen a magnetic system that should guarantee the cable that leaves the battery pack to remain firmly connected and not detach during the user’s movements, a round connector that would allow the to remain firmly tied to the door. The cable would be permanently connected to the headset while on the opposite end there will be a proprietary connector.
The choice of battery pack would be due to the need to reduce the weight of the headset itself, avoiding the pressure on the face that a device with an integrated battery would cause, making it uncomfortable, a complaint apparently reported by users of headsets such as the Quest by Half.
Those who wish can eventually purchase an additional battery pack, similar in size to the MagSafe Battery Pack for recent iPhones, increasing the battery life. This choice seems to have been a bit of a debate within Apple, with the company increasingly pushing towards cable-free devices. For the moment it has been preferred to do so; other solutions could be evaluated for future versions of the viewer.
