Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has shared the main new features we will see on the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro.
Gurman says the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max displays will appear noticeably larger thanks to the reduced bezels, which are about a third smaller than the iPhone 14 Pro. He added that the new titanium frame will have a brushed effect, a unlike the glossy finish of current models which have stainless steel frames, also with the aim of reducing fingerprints. The titanium frame will be more durable and will decrease the weight by approximately 10%. The edges where the metal sides and the front and back glass of the device meet are now smoother and rounded.
The A17 Bionic chip will offer improved performance thanks to its first-of-its-kind 3nm manufacturing process, and one of the key benefits of the chip will be longer battery life. The devices will also feature more memory, up from the 6GB of RAM offered in iPhone Pro models in recent years.
The new action button that replaces the mute switch can be customized to perform functions including “mute the phone, activate Focus mode, open the flashlight, launch the camera, start a voice recording, open Siri Shortcuts , open the digital magnifier and open the accessibility settings”.
The telephoto and ultra-wide cameras of the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will have more megapixels than their predecessors, surpassing 12 megapixels for the first time. Gurman also clarified that the iPhone 15 Pro Max will retain its “Pro Max” moniker and will not be labeled as an “Ultra” model as some previous rumors have suggested.
Both the standard iPhone and Pro models will feature an all-new “U2” ultra-wideband chip, the first iteration of the component since the introduction of the U1 chip in the iPhone 11 Pro in 2019. The new chip will improve location capabilities and precision in tracking people and objects.
Other improvements coming to the entire range include faster wireless charging speeds and a more repairable design in case of damage.
Gurman also reiterated several previously reported rumors, such as Dynamic Island on all models, the A16 Bionic chip and 48-megapixel main camera coming to the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, as well as the periscope telephoto lens on the iPhone 15 Pro Max with optics up to 6x.
