Effects and tools for video processing on iPhone and iPad

In previous versions of iOS to work with videos, a specialized program was required with the extension for the photo – IMOVIE, INFLTR, etc. Now all this in the past – video on the iPhone and iPad can be edited “out of the box”, i.e. Right in Apple’s photo application. The same tools are available for working with videos as for processing a photo. Now you can apply system effects to the video, turn and cut the video.

To start using the video editing tools in the photo application, select a video in which you want to make changes, and then click the blue button “edit” in the upper right corner. After making changes using any of the tools listed below, press the yellow button “Ready” to maintain the result. The white button “Cancel” will delete all disguised changes.

The interface is divided into six main tools:

1.Video trimming

You can cut the video from both the beginning and from the end. To remove the initial part of the shot material, drag the arrow from the left edge to the right along the time scale. As soon as you start moving this element, the cut part will be marked with gray. The remaining part will be highlighted in yellow. Pre -viewing will correspond to the movements of the frame under your finger. This will help to determine in which place you need to stop. Repeat the movement with the arrow from the right edge, moving it to the left. This will cut the ending of the video.

2.Editing color (correction)

Starting with iOS 13, almost all tools for adjusting images have become available for video. To go to the parameters, on the toolbar, tap the settings icon in the form of a circular dial with points around it.

Here you can open the video and press the usual button of the auto button (icon with a magic wand). Do this – and iOS automatically adjusts the colors, brightness, contrast, saturation and other parameters so that the quality of the video file is noticeably better. This function is trying to find out what is in the video and configure the parameters for the optimal type. But still it will be necessary to move the slider for viewing. As a rule, this function in itself works great. But if you want to change the settings a little, there are several additional options to the right of the improvement tool:

  • Exposition.
  • Light areas.
  • Shadows.
  • Contrast.
  • Brightness.
  • Black Point.
  • Saturation.
  • Colorfulness.
  • Heat.
  • Shade.
  • Sharpness.
  • Definition.
  • Reducing noise.
  • Vignette.

For each of the options below there is a slider to change the intensity of the effect and get the desired video settings. The influence of each of the settings can be canceled by moving the sliders back to a small white point or touching the adjustment effect. The latter will retain the last position of the slider, so when pressing the icon you can return to the previous settings.

3.Filters

Now you can a little embellish your video with your video using one of the nine filters. They differ from those available in the Imovie expansion.

To go to the filters, click on the icon in the form of three intersecting circles on the toolbar. For each filter, a series of miniature images will appear, which you can use by scrolling through the cycle. Each miniature creates a quick preliminary viewing of how the current frame of the video will look like after applying the effect.

The filters include:

Bright: allows you to lighten the video and re -emphasize bright moments. There are also bright warm and bright cool effects to give the video a yellow or blue tint respectively.
Spectacular: it darkens the video and focuses on the shadows. The options are also spectacular warm and spectacular cool.
Black and white, silver and noir: various black and white effects.

In addition, each filter has a slider below to change the intensity of application. This allows you to configure effects even better.

4.Capturing, turn and perspective

The basic options provide for trimming and turning, and more advanced tools – a mirror display and slope. To gain access to these new functions, click on the trim icon, the last on the toolbar.

Capturing. By default, you can cut the material in any form. Give up the video marker in the corner and move it inside, and then repeat the same operation for other corners until the video is cut to your taste. You can also increase the image with a pinch to choose a new area of cadrot.

Touching the icon before an ellipse with a multi -flower will allow you to fix various options for the ratio of the parties, both for portrait and album. These include: the initial ratio of the parties, the square, 9:16 (or 16: 9), 8:10 (or 10: 8), 5: 7 (or 7: 5), 3: 4 (or 4: 3), 3: 5 (or 5: 3) and 2: 3 (or 3: 2). After choosing the option when dragging the corners, the selected ratio of the parties will be maintained, but you can increase the scale for changing the pruning area with a pinch.

You can cancel the pruning if you do not like changes. This is especially convenient when pruning arbitrary shape. Then you can again press the side of the parties to return to other editing tools.

Turn. In the upper left corner, press on a square icon with a curved arrow to turn the video. Each time when touching the icon, the video will turn 90 degrees clockwise.

Mirroring. When you take a selfie on the iPhone, whether it is a photo or video, then at the preliminary viewing we will see ourselves as we usually see in the mirror. But with the final selfie or shooting a video from the front camera, the results will be turned upside down, as if we were shot from the same mirror. In other words, we look like other people see us. This is useful, since texts and symbols will be displayed in normal, not mirror.

But if you want a selfie to become the way it looks at a pre -view, that is, the opportunity to mirror it mirror. To do this, just touch the icon that looks like a triangle divided into two parts with a bilateral arrow above it.

Straightening. Under the video (in his portrait orientation) or to the right of him (in album orientation), you can see the “straightening” tool. Its initially selected icon looks like a circle with a horizontal line. Move the slider to the left or right to turn the video anywhere from a negative angle of 45 degrees to a positive angle of 45 degrees.

To reset the effect, move the slider back to where the small white point is located, tap the effect of the effect (which retains your last selected angle in case of need to return), or click the “reset” at the top.

Perspective (bias). Next to the “straightening” button are buttons for a vertical and horizontal skew. The vertical is a trapezoid with a vertical line, and horizontal – with a horizontal line. The use of a slider for any of them will lead to a skew of the prospects of the Vertical or horizontal video.

An example when this is useful is to some extent an imitation of the initial personnel of Star Wars with screen text flying into the distance.

To reset the effect, move the slider back to where the small white point is located, tap the effect of the effect (which retains your last selected angle in case of need to return), or click “drop” at the top.

5.Removing audio

If your video has background noise, ambient sounds from being in a public place, or other distracting sounds, then iOS 13 will let you fix that problem. Unfortunately, there is no way to adjust volume levels or reduce background noise, but you can completely remove the sound. Click on the yellow speaker icon in the top left corner. When it turns gray with a line through it, the audio track will disappear after the file is saved.

Return to the original

One of the most powerful functions in the “Photo” application is the possibility of easily rolling changes. If you want to return to the original appearance, click the “edit” button to open the editor, and then click the red button “return”, and then “return to the original”. All changes made will disappear, and your video will be the same as it was originally.

The Photo application provides each user with iOS set of easy to use, but at the same time powerful video editing tools. And there is no need to look for third -party applications to perform such work.
