With the “DisplayMate Best Smartphone Display Award” and the A + rating for screen performance, the iPhone 14 Pro Max replaces last year’s winner, the iPhone 13 Pro Max.
While the iPhone 14 Pro Max has essentially the same resolution as the iPhone 13 Pro Max, Apple has added a number of notable improvements. The LTPO OLED display ranges from 1Hz to 120Hz instead of 10Hz to 120Hz, allowing for an always-on low-power display option, as well as having a larger display area available thanks to the Dynamic Island.
DisplayMate found that the iPhone 14 Pro Max is capable of reaching a peak brightness of 2,300 nits, more than double that of the iPhone 13 Pro Max. Apple advertises a peak brightness of 2,000 nits, so the tests also passed the company guidelines. According to DisplayMate, HDR brightness reached a maximum of 1,590 nits, a 33% improvement over the iPhone 13 Pro Max.

The iPhone 14 Pro Max has won 15 awards in total, compared to 13 for the iPhone 13 Pro Max. DisplayMate says Apple has focused on improving the absolute picture quality and absolute color accuracy of the OLED with a precision calibration of the display at the factory, which according to the site is “visually indistinguishable from perfection”.
