The M3 chip will be mass-produced in the second half of the year. The future M3 chip will be mass-produced in the second half of 2023. This was reported by the analyst Ming-Chi Kuo in a note sent to investors and reported – among others – by the US site Macrumors.

In a tweet, the analyst reports that the production of the M3 chip will start “a little later” than the M3 Pro and M3 Max. Apple is expected to leverage the M3 chip for future 13″ MacBook Air, 13″ MacBook Pro, iMac 24″ and Mac mini, while the top-of-the-line M3 Pro and M3 Max chips are expected to be destined for future MacBook Pro 14″ and 16″, machines that Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has predicted to arrive in the first half of 2024.
The M3 chips should take advantage of a 3nm construction process, the latest node available from TSMC; compared to the 5nm of the M2 chips, the M3s should offer significant improvements both in terms of performance and in terms of energy efficiency.
As for the expected 15-inch MacBook Airs, according to Kuo they will use the M2 chip. In June of last year this analyst had predicted the 15” MacBook Air also in the variant with M2 Pro chip but now he doesn’t seem more convinced of the previous forecast.
An element of particular interest in the latest rumors reported by Kuo is that the M3 chip is still far from launch, an element which, Macrumors explains, makes sense bearing in mind that the expected tower Mac Pro is expected with an M2 Ultra chip and Apple may want to complete the rollout of various machines with M2 before starting to offer models with SoC M3.
