Apple Watch Ultra Users Report Screen Darkening Issues Following Latest watchOS 10 Update. Following a recent update, the display on the Apple Watch Ultra has been reported to darken excessively, making it difficult for users to read in dim environments. This issue is not limited to a specific model, as complaints have emerged from both first-generation Apple Watch Ultra and the newer Apple Watch Ultra 2 users. The main suspect behind this glitch is the latest watchOS 10.

Experts believe that the root of the problem might be tied to the inaccurate calibration of the ambient light sensor. With the recent software versions, this sensor seems to struggle in adjusting the screen brightness appropriately in low-light conditions.

Specifically, users notice the screen darkness in two scenarios: transitioning quickly from a well-lit space to a darker one, and when certain watch dials, like Wayfinder and Ultra Modular, are set to night mode, activating a red filter on the screen.

Some suggest that the new Ultra 2’s capability to amplify screen brightness up to 3,000 nits or decrease it to just 1 nit might be a contributing factor. However, given that the first-generation Ultra users are also facing similar issues, the operating system’s latest versions seem to be the likely culprits.

As of now, adjusting the brightness manually via settings hasn’t proved fruitful. For those who haven’t installed the update yet, it might be best to hold off. Thankfully, Apple seems to be in the loop about this problem, and it’s expected that a fix will be rolled out in the upcoming software updates.”
