This was reported by the analyst Ming-Chi Kuo in a post published on Medium. Kuo states that according to his latest findings at the supply chain of the Cupertino company, “Apple is actively adopting 3D printing technology”, and that “some titanium mechanical components of the Apple Watch Ultra 2H23 (expected before the end year, ed), will be made with 3D printing”.

The components in question could be: the Digital Crown, the side key or the Action key, the only mechanical components present on ‌Apple Watch Ultra, currently obtained from CNC machining (particular precision machining obtained with classic instruments such as lathes and milling machines) .

According to Kuo, the transition to 3D printing should improve production times and reduce costs; if deliveries from suppliers take place within the times and quality required by Apple, again according to the analyst, Cupertino could decide in the future to exploit 3D printing for other products as well.

As for the – alleged – second generation Apple Watch Ultra, few rumors have circulated so far. Even the always well-informed Kark Gurman of Bloomberg has in any case foreseen the arrival of a new model, an accessory which, according to him, will be presented together with the future Apple Watch Series 9, always before the end of the year, following the usual annual cycle of updates already seen with other Apple products.
