iPhone 15, the components reveal USB-C with Thunderbolt speeds. It is anticipated that Apple will announce iPhone 15 next month, exactly on September 12th. At this point, multiple sources now agree that the new smartphones will all come with a USB-C port instead of the usual Lightning connector. It’s no secret that USB-C has many advantages over Apple’s proprietary connector, but it now appears that the iPhone 15 will have Thunderbolt support.

Earlier this month, a user shared images of USB-C connectors allegedly made for the new iPhone 15 models. What was unknown at the time was that these leaked connectors were keeping a secret. According to ChargerLAB, which received exclusive images of the USB-C connectors made for the iPhone 15, Apple’s new phones will support Thunderbolt technology.
For those unfamiliar with it, it is a hardware interface developed by Intel in collaboration with Apple to transmit data at high speeds. The current version of Thunderbolt works through the USB-C connector and is already present in many Apple devices, such as Macs and iPad Pros.
And then iPhone 15 could be the next device to get Thunderbolt support, at least according to the latest advances. The website noted that the leaked components feature a mysterious Retimer chip. This chip is commonly used to reconstruct signals and reduce signal jitter in Thunderbolt devices.
In other words, the iPhone 15’s USB-C connector will be able to transmit data at much higher speeds than the Lightning connector can. For example, the Lightning connector is based on USB 2.0 technology, which transmits up to 480 Mbps. Typical standard USB-C connectors transmit between 5 Gbps and 10 Gbps of data, while for Thunderbolt, data transfer speeds reach the 40Gbps.
This comes with many benefits, especially for professionals who need to quickly transfer ProRes video to a computer. The technology can also deliver more power, allowing users to charge their phones faster.
It is not yet clear whether all iPhone 15 models will have Thunderbolt support or, more likely, only the Pro models. Indeed, with the iPad range, Apple limits Thunderbolt to the iPad Pros, while the iPad Air has a USB-C 3.1 connector and The base iPad 10 has a much slower USB-C 2.0 connector.
While ChargerLAB claims the connector appears to be the same for all new models, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the Thunderbolt feature were relegated to the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max only.
