This is what Apple Watch 9 will look like, an old friend with more muscle. September is the month of new devices and this year too, albeit with some uncertainty (we explain why below), with iPhone 15, Apple will present the new Apple Watch. iPhone 15 could have fast charging up to 35W
Very little has been said about these two products compared to the iPhone, but there is some news and among these some that seem very reliable. We summarize everything you need to know in this article.
The Apple Watch, together with the iPhone, has for years become one of the most anticipated products by the public, with annual updates. In recent times, however, the innovation process has slowed down very clearly so that we can say that the latest model capable of introducing important innovations was Apple Watch 6.
Will there be a new Apple Watch in September?
According to some sources within Apple, in fact, Apple has pondered the hypothesis of lengthening the time of the update cycle, a proposal that for iPad is already a reality. No iPad updates year over year anymore. This is the consequence of the maturation process of the device on which it becomes difficult to apply novelties at the same pace as in the first years of the debut.
It is no coincidence that in 2022, Apple focused attention and research on Apple Watch Ultra, a substantially new and different product from the Apple Watch we know today, different in form factor and size.
In any case, for this year the new Apple Watch 9 should be there. Looking forward to a really new Apple Watch that could arrive in 2024 or 2025.
Apple Watch 9, dimensions and colors
Let’s start with what doesn’t change. The number of Apple Watches. The devices are currently known under the codes N207, N208. A third Apple Watch, called the N210, is expected to be the 2023 Apple Watch Ultra Edition.
The two Apple Watch 9 will be identical with the only difference that falls within the scope of the dimensions which also should not change we will have the classic 41 and 45 mm variants.
One thing that should be new is the choice of colors. Alongside the classic silver, space gray, galaxy which with the red of the PRODUCT (RED) constitute the translation, we should also have two new colors. At least that’s what some Eastern sources predict.
Let’s talk about those gold (which for now is only for the steel model) and rose gold. The latter has long been a color used for the aluminum back of iPhones as well as devices like the iPad mini and iPad Air.
Hardware news
We said above that Apple has long pondered the possibility of no longer introducing a new Apple Watch a year due to the impossibility of making hardware progress substantially in such a short time frame. Even if in the end this idea was set aside mainly to not be uncompetitive with the competition (especially Fitbit and Samsung) who present new products every year, the update will be there but there are no big news on the horizon for Apple Watch 9.
Indeed, let’s say that we are faced with the expectation of a routine update that will bring very few, functionally speaking, new features compared to Apple Watch 9.
Processor improvements
The main novelty of the new model will be the new processor, or rather, the S9 processor system. This is no small update when you consider that the Apple smart watch basically hasn’t changed its processor since the launch of Apple Watch 6.
The Apple Watch 6 SIP (System on a Package) was the S6. Apple introduced Apple Watch 7 with the S7 SIP, and then S8 with Apple Watch 8. But all three of these processors were based on the A13 used in iPhone 11 with 7 nanometer circuitry. Their CPU (unlike the speech for other components, such as the gyroscope and accelerometer) is the same and it is therefore not surprising that Apple has always compared the performance to that of Apple Watch 5 which had the SIP S5.
With the SIP S9, Apple Watch 9 will be able to take a leap forward thanks to the fact that it changes the CPU based on A15, the iPhone 13 processor which was not only very fast but particularly economical in consumption.
Autonomy Apple Watch 9
For this reason we can expect that one of the best new features of Apple Watch 9 could be greater autonomy.
However, the new chip could also be exploited for features that we should see with watchOS 10, the operating system on which Apple is working and that we should see in the first beta version in June, on the occasion of the annual developer conference. According to rumors circulated so far, watchOS 10 should boast, among other things, a new widget system.
Often, Apple has preferred to keep (more or less) the battery life unchanged, but introducing important features, such as the always-on screen. Therefore, it cannot be excluded that the reduction in consumption of the Apple Watch processor is used to give it new functions
New Straps
Another obvious novelty could be the introduction of a new fabric strap with magnetic buckle, similar to the current Modern Umber strap. This could give users an additional styling option to customize Apple Watch Series 9.
Apple Watch Ultra 2023
The Apple Watch Ultra was introduced in 2022, but it looks like there will be an update in 2023. It’s not yet clear what Apple might include in this new version, but a new processor is one hypothesis.
Another novelty could be the color. Apple has experimented with a dark titanium tint abandoning the idea of introducing it with the launch of Apple Watch 2022. The right time could come with the 2023 model.
New Apple Watch SE
Historically, Apple hasn’t released an annual update for the Apple Watch SE, so it’s more likely there won’t be an update in 2023, considering the latest version launched in 2022.
Apple Watch X
As we said above, Apple has long been cultivating the idea of totally renovating the Apple Watch on the occasion of its tenth anniversary. This could be set in either 2024 (ten years from announcement) or 2025 (ten years from availability).

Submission date
It is speculated that Apple will present the iPhone 15 line on September 12 via a largely digital event. The same stage should give birth to the new Apple Watch 9 series, as well as the second generation Apple Waltch Ultra.
Apple Watch 9 price
There do not seem to be the conditions for further price increases, considering that the changes to Apple Watch 9 will be minor, except for the chip. So you can expect identical list prices to the current models.
